Why Write...?

to tame the fire
to create another world
to make sense of this one
to heal and inspire healing
to change the course of the wave
to say "I am."
to breathe sounds
to eat the word
to drink the fluid language that springs from source
to ignite all fires
to say "I am" again and again
to wonder at the meaning of life
to relate
to look into the fire
to know the child within
to know the wonder

And so I write.  

Poetry is the wonder of a child
her face smeared with chocolate.
She knows the light
as her lucid and joyous heart.
Such simplicity that tumbles
into our lives
like dainty jasmine pure and fragrant
white in the dark night
is a constant reminder
in our busy toiling days
of the wonder
that she brings back to us
again and again.
It is always there
in her eyes.
