Ambika Talwar

Once upon a time...

From a hospital room in Devlali (near Bombay, India) to Los Angeles has been a long road of learning new ways and gaining new perspectives.  Furthermore, defining the self through the arts and through travels has been a profound and refining struggle. The journey continues in self-exploration, seeking new connections, new languages…thus do stories unfold.

Ambika Talwar is an accomplished poet, artist, and educator. She is a published poet with the following books to her credit—Poems in Color, Songs of the Body, In the Folds of Your Sari, and Words for Hungry Tongues.  More recently, she published her book on her approach to teaching poetry—Creative Resonance: Poetry—Elegant Play, Elegant Change.  She has produced, written, and directed a short film titled Androgyne, for which she received the Best Original Story Award at the International Short Film Festival in Huy, Belgium. She continues to have a successful career in academia as a professor of writing and literature.

She has also been involved as a practitioner in the healing arts & sciences since the 1990's. She began her work with Reiki and then made a transition to Polarity Therapy and Cranio-Sacral Unwinding. More recently, she is devoting her time to DNA/Theta/Core Belief work, which she studied with Vianna Stibal.  Ambika has had great successes with her clients who believe that they would like to become reacquainted with the language of their body (poetry) in order to enhance their sense of wellbeing and gain clarity in their life.

Ambika studied polarity therapy in Santa Monica through Polarity Healing Arts, now based in Topanga Canyon and run by Gary Strauss and Tracy Griffiths. Her teachers include Gary Strauss, Tom Keegan, Gloria Kamler, Roberta Belson, Myrna Castaline and her peers and cohorts.

Other significant influences are Prof. Dorothea Kenny, Yasuhiko Genku Kimura, David R. Hawkins—and, as always, family.

Ambika enjoys traveling and painting to increase her understanding of relationships and the diverse cultural environment within which they unfold.  Her most recent stay in Italy has enriched her worldview more than any other place, she notes.  Italy is so layered that it “reminded me how universal are all virtues and values—I love connecting with ancient stones, sounds and stories.”  Herself from an ancient land, she has made her home in the US for some years.
